Saltation Subscribers Take Note

Those who supported the writing of Saltation with a donation of $25US or more should know that all books have been mailed and have had ample opportunity to have reached the Far Corners of the Earth. If you have *not* received your signed thank-you book, please write to saltationATkorvalDOTcom (where The Usual replace AT and DOT), with your name and the address to which your book should be mailed.

If you have written to us on this topic already and received an answer, there is no need to write again.

Once again, thank you all for your interest in and support of our work.

Mouse and Dragon on the Nets and in the News

Starting early Monday morning (that’s Maine, USA, time) May 17 Sharon will be tweeting short snippets from Mouse and Dragon through the BaenBooks Twitter feed; those tweets should also be reflected on Sharon’s Facebook page and on her blog.

Please feel free to retweet or otherwise share the information about the snippets – and the book! – as appropriate. Why is this happening? Because Mouse and Dragon should be in stores real soon now – officially June 1 according to a bunch of places – and is already available to pre-order from most quality independent bookstores. Where should you look? Try the list lower in this newsletter for hints or visit Indiebound, as well as Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million, Borders, Powells, Amazon.com, and your local science fiction convention.

Author Travel Notes: Oasis 23 and DucKon 19

Time for you to tune old plans or make sudden new plans to join Lee & Miller in Orlando, Florida for Oasis on your Memorial Day break, or catch them several weeks later in Naperville, IL at Duckon. The authors will be Guests of Honor for both of these events, and welcome the opportunity to meet with as many Friends of Liad as possible. Be there!

Saltation Subscribers Take Note!

As reported previously by Infodumpling, by the time Baen Management had put in the “transfer inventory” order that would send 1200 pre-ordered Saltations truckin’ to Maine, to be signed by the authors and shipped to supporters, the warehouse was, essentially, empty. A rash of just-in-time orders from bookstores meant that there were not nearly enough books remaining to fill the authorial pre-orders.

Baen ordered an immediate new printing; the books will be in the warehouse by the end of May and will arrive in Maine soon after. However, also as previously advertised, Lee & Miller will be RSN leaving Maine for Oasis, a convention in Orlando, and thus may be unable to sign and ship 1200 books in a timely fashion even if they arrive before we leave; handling that many books with care takes time.

We will do our best to get the books out quickly and as soon as we can.

We will let you know when the pre-ordered Saltations hit Maine, and keep you informed of our progress in signing and mailing them. We are sorry to have to ask to wait even longer for your books. This event is unprecedented and utterly beyond our control, but who expected Saltation to end up on the Wall Street Journal bestseller list, after all?

Carousel Tides Website Launches

In support of her Maine-based contemporary fantasy, Carousel Tides, Sharon has built a website, here. There are several sections on geographies in and around Archers Beach, for completists, some information about the novel, comments from advance readers, as well as two sample chapters. Content (and samples) will be added between now and the book’s release date in early November, so be sure to bookmark and check back often!

And Now for Something Completely Different

As many of you know, SRM Publisher from time includes fliers or postcards from other publishers in mailings and orders. Of all the inclusions added over the years, one stood out in reaction from readers – the news that Thunderbirds™ had found a home at FTL Publications. We’re happy to pass on the following message from Joan Marie Verba, publisher at FTL Publications:

On Tuesday, May 18, 2010, FTL Publications is having a Virtual (Re)Launch Party for its Thunderbirds™ titles: Countdown to Action, Action Alert, and Deadly Danger. These are the officially licensed, approved, and sanctioned novels based on the 1960s Thunderbirds™ television series, set in the decade of the 2060s. Buy any Thunderbirds™ book from any source on that day, and you can download free bonus gifts. Details at the website: http://www.countdowntoaction.com.

Countdown to Action is a Mom’s Choice Awards Silver Recipient, a finalist in the National Best Books Awards, and a finalist in the Foreword Magazine Book of the Year Awards. Action Alert is also a Mom’s Choice Awards Silver Recipient. Deadly Danger is a finalist in the 2010 Scribe Awards.

Where in the World are Lee and Miller?

Sharon and Steve will be Writer Guests of Honor at Oasis 23 (http://www.oasfis.org/oasis/) May 28 – 30, 2010 in Orlando, Florida*! In addition to stellar programming, planning is going forth for a Friends of Liad breakfast!

June 18 – 20, 2010, Steve and Sharon will be Literary Guests of Honor at DucKon 19 (http://www.duckon.org/) in Naperville, Illinois!

Please tell the registration folks that we sent you!

We will also be attending ReConStruction, the 10th Occassional North American Science Fiction Convention, in Raleigh, NC, August 5-8, 2010.

Saltation Subscribers Take Note!

As reported elsewhere on the web, by the time Baen Management had put in the "transfer inventory" order that would send 1200 pre-ordered Saltations truckin' to Maine, to be signed by the authors and shipped to supporters, the warehouse was, essentially, empty. A rash of just-in-time orders from bookstores meant that there were not nearly enough books remaining to fill the pre-orders.

Please note that this does not mean that Saltation is "sold out in stores." We have reports of recent sightings on shelves. What it does mean is that all the books are in the distribution channel, covering vendor orders.

This is Good News.

Also! Baen has ordered an immediate new printing; the books will be in the warehouse again in May and that "transfer inventory" order to Maine is at the top of the orders to be filled.

We are sorry to have to ask to wait even longer for your books. This event is unprecedented and utterly beyond our control.

Slated for an April 22 street release, Saltation was actually on shelves and shipping from online vendors two weeks before. We had hints of vigorous sales -- Saltation has been dancing between various spots on the Amazon.com Top 100 in space opera list since it began shipping, including places in the Top Five.

Similar news from the brick-and-mortar stores was received last night, when Baen's Toni Weisskopf let us know that Saltation has hit Number Four on the Wall Street Journal's list of Bestselling Science Fiction Books for the week ending April 25, 2010. What's especially important about the WSJ list is that it counts actual sales to customers; which means that most of those late bookstore orders passed into the hands of Actual Readers.

That's a heck of a lot of books out the door; Lee and Miller's very first National Bestseller, and --

We couldn't have done it without you.

Thank you all.

We will let you know when the pre-ordered Saltations hit Maine, and keep you informed of our progress in signing and mailing them.

In Other News

We have this week received in Maine our authors' copies for both Mouse and Dragon and The Dragon Variation, both with a street date of June 1. This means that the books have been printed and are on their ways to central warehouses, from which they will enter the distribution channel and eventually arrive at a bookstore near you.

Fledgling Second Flight
The mass market paperback of Fledgling will be in stores near you realsoonnow. We've seen release dates from February 23 to March 15. Now is not too soon to drop by your favorite bookstore and ask when it will be in.

Fledgling Signed Hardcovers up for Adoption
We believe that everyone who should have received a signed, "thank you" Fledgling direct from the authors has now received their book. (NOTE: If you should have received a book and you don't have it in hand, WRITE TO SHARON NOW! at fledglingATkorval.com (where @ replaces AT). We are therefore putting the one hundred twenty-four (124) unclaimed books up for adoption. If you want a signed copy, this is
what to do:

1. If you are in the North America, you may PayPal $30 to fledglingATkorval.com (where @ replaces AT). You are responsible for being sure that the delivery address is correct.

2. If you are outside of North America, you may PayPal $40 to fledglingATkorval.com (where@ replaces AT). You are responsible for being sure that the delivery address is correct.

3. If you prefer to send a check or money order (in US funds drawn on a US bank only, please), write to fledglingATkorval.com (where @ replaces AT) and tell Sharon that you are putting a check in the mail to her at: Sharon Lee, PO Box 707, Waterville ME 04903-0707

4. Prices include shipping. The reason for the discrepancy between North American and other orders is that the United States Post Office has lost its tiny mind. We apologize profusely for this lapse of rationality.

5. Because there are a limited number of these books in hand, this will be a First Come, First Served operation. This is why is very important for those who prefer to do commerce by check to tell Sharon that a check has been sent.

6. This adoption may not be combined with any SRM order; the Fledgling and Saltation are Lee-and-Miller projects, and are fully separate from SRM Publisher. It seems a tiny, tiny thing, but it makes our accountant happy when we put the money in the right piles, and we're all about keeping our accountant happy.

Saltation Distant Early Warning
Sometime within the next couple months, Sharon and Steve will be taking delivery of the thank-you books for Saltation subscribers. Please Note that all subscribers will be contacted by email in order to verify delivery addresses. You will be contacted by Scott Raun, the long-time administrator of the Friends of Liad mailing list and the
liadenuniversenews list. We've known and worked with Scott for many, many years, we trust him implicitly, and we urge you to trust him in this matter. Many of you will remember that Scott did the address verification for Fledgling. The email address that he will be writing to you from is saltation_verifyATkorval.com (where @ replaces AT).

We have already had several inquiries regarding our plans for receiving and shipping Saltation. Follows our timeline:

We will probably take delivery of 1200 copies of Saltation in March. We don't know exactly when in March. We have an Educated Guess in hand, but at this point it is exactly that, and not a hard delivery date.

After we take delivery of those books and get them under roof in the cold storage next to SRM Galactic Headquarters, we will sign them*.

*I don't know how long it's going to take, exactly, to sign 1100 books (which I believe to be the total of subscriber orders). Eleven hundred books is A Lot of books; I mention this because some folks seem to have no concept of that. Also, even though we both have relatively short names, signing them 1100 times takes a while. Our experience with
Fledgling suggests that *signing alone* will consume on the order of several days to a week. Alas, we cannot devote a full week to only signing books; we have a day-job, and SRM usual business to accommodate during this time.

After the books are signed, we will log the database and print the labels. This also takes time, because, yanno -- printers, labels, on-line postage services. . . Once the labels are printed, Steve will single-handedly pack and mail those 1100 books. This could, conservatively, take weeks and weeks. And weeks.

It's entirely possible, as with Fledgling, that subscribers will receive their thank-you Saltations months after the book has been available from bookstores. We apologize for this and regret any inconvenience.

To sum up: We intend to ship Saltation to subscribers as quickly as humanly possible without killing ourselves, neglecting the cats, or defaulting on other of life's obligations. This seems the best course for everyone.

Please Note: At this time, we are closing pre-support donations to Saltation. If we have any books left over after the epic task described above is completed, and a suitable waiting period joined, we will put them up for adoption.

Thank you all for your understanding of this process -- and for your interest in and on-going support of our work.

Postage Fund
Postage rates have gone up for the. . .fourth. . .time since Sharon and Steve began writing Fledgling. What this means that the money we set aside for postage is not quite as large and grand a pile as we thought it was when we started out.

For instance, postage to France and to Australia is now $17.64 (assuming Saltation will be to Fledgling's dimensions, which is Just Too Big to fit into a small international box, which would knock about $3 off the cost). Postage to New Zealand is $16.99**; and to Canada, $8.93

Those who wish to donate extra postage money may do so by sending an amount that seems Just and Good to them via PayPal to postageATkorval.com, where @ replaces AT.

This is, we feel compelled to note, Strictly Voluntary; no one will have their book held because we're "short" postage money*.

Thank you all.
------------------
*We will (and have, for Fledgling) ask for additional postage funds from people whose book is returned to us, because that is an extra, and avoidable, expense.

The newest publications from SRM Publisher (http://www.srmpublisher.com) are:

first appeared in Jim Baen's Universe electronic magazine. This is the story of the weatherman and the military action on Klamath that shaped Miri Robertson.

We're fortunate in our readers -- I mean that most sincerely. You guys have stuck with us and supported our work for years, and we're grateful.

So, the below is not a complaint, but an explanation, because there seems to be confusion growing about how certain parts of the authoring and bookselling biz actually work. Part of the confusion is our fault, since Steve and I are also our own publishing house -- SRM Publisher -- and because we have promulgated or been involved in various odd situations throughout our career, such as the web serialization projects and the signed hardcover program from Meisha Merlin.

Because our readers look out for us, we've had some questions (en blog and by email) since the announcement that Mouse and Dragon and The Dragon Variation were available for pre-order from Amazon. Our readers want to make sure that we receive the most benefit possible from their purchase of those books, and assume that the best way to do that is to buy them from us.

Except...that's not the case.

See, neither Mouse and Dragon nor The Dragon Variation will be published by SRM Publisher; they (like Fledgling, Saltation, Longeye, and Duainfey, all of the upcoming omnibi, Carousel Tides, and Ghost Ship, too) will be published by Baen Books.

In order for SRM or Lee and Miller to sell Mouse and Dragon, for instance, Direct to the Public, we would have to buy a Whole Bunch from Baen, at 40% off cover, just like a bookstore would do, for a lump sum that we probably don't have, and then sell them through the SRM website, at cover, just like a bookstore would do. So, not only would we not make more money, we would have more hassle, and less time to write.

We get, I think it's 10% (the paperwork's in the bottom file drawer and I'm too lazy to look right now), of cover on all retail sales -- whether the sales come from Amazon, your local bookstore, or the drugstore down the street. That's fixed by contract. There is no way for us to get "more" than the contractual percentage, except by selling a certain number of books (also defined in the contract) and driving the percentage to the next level.

Now, we do get a tiny bit of extra compen$ation when someone clicks on the links on the sidebar [which is located here and buys that book from Amazon.com, because we're Amazon Associates. The amount is not so large that I'm going to demand that people only buy our books from Amazon.com. We have urged and continue to urge people to buy from their local bookstores; we believe in and value local bookstores and the only way they can continue in business is if people continue to patronize them.

We probably did muddy the waters with Fledgling and Saltation, which were atypical; not Traditional Publishing at all. We had promised people who donated $25 or more to the web serialization projects a signed copy of the finished book. Our original intent had been to have SRM print trade paperbacks sufficient to satisfy the subscriber base. When Baen took the books under contract (which is Good, because Baen has Much, MUCH better distribution than SRM), our advance included books sufficient to cover those subscribers. This is not how it usually works; the contract for Mouse and Dragon and all other books bearing the Baen imprint are traditional book contracts.

I hope this helps clear things up.

We love you guys.

Amazon.com lists both The Dragon Variation and Mouse and Dragon available for pre-order, both with a street date of June 1, 2010. No art for either yet, alas, but soon, I'm sure.

This is excellent news, not just for The Usual Reasons, but because The Dragon Variation includes three novels, Local Custom, Scout's Progress and Conflict of Honors. AsyouknowBob, Mouse and Dragon is the direct sequel to Scout's Progress, so the whole story will be available to new readers and old, alike.

*is pleased*

For those who prefer to wait and purchase locally, mark June 1 on your calendars!

OK, we're champing at the bit to make hay while the iron is hot!

Many of you know that our friends at Baen Books will be reissuing the entire Liaden Universe(R) backlist -- all of the original 10 novels -- in four volumes, starting in June 2010. This is exciting for us and presents a rare opportunity for -- you!

Opportunity?

Why, yes.

The imminent arrival of brand new Baen editions (ref. here and here means that the dwindling supply of original Meisha Merlin books stacked against the walls at SRM Galactic Headquarters are going to be a potential source of. . .confusion for new readers.

Do we want to confuse new readers?

We! Do! Not!

Because we love our readers.

How much? you ask, rightly suspicious.

This much:

From now until midnight Eastern Standard Time on Saturday November 7, we're going to give you the bookstore discount on any of the Meisha Merlin editions listed below.

That's right! Forty percent off cover! With this kind of break, you might want to start your own bookstore.

Or maybe you'd just like to stock up early for all those future gift-giving occasions -- birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, the upcoming holiday season of your choice, etcetera, etcetera. Because, as we all know, books make wonderful gifts!

This is a one price fits all deal! -- that means bookstores can play, too! -- and the rules are the same for all -- we'll ship media mail in the US, and out of country sales may get a request for additional postage if the shipment is too big.

Yes, some of these books exist in limited quantities, and yes, first come first served.

To order on the web, go to SRM Publisher (that's: http://www.srmpublisher.com). At checkout, use the discount code HAPPY HALLOWEEN

To order by snailmail (checks drawn on US dollar accounts only) please drop us a note at editor1ATsrmpublisher.com (where @ replaces AT) to tell us what you want. We can't hold your order until your check arrives if we haven't heard from you!

Absolutely no phone orders on this offer and absolutely no credit card orders by mail, if you please.

Allow 21 business days for shipping.

So! Here they are! From now through Saturday November 7, the books below will be sold at 40 percent off cover price!

Liaden Universe InfoDump # 79

YULE CHAPBOOK 2009 -- YOU'VE BEEN ASKING ABOUT THIS

Adventures in the Liaden Universe #16 is coming in November. This year's Yule chapbook will contain two new stories by Lee and Miller, "Moon on the Hills," and "Hidden Resources." The book itself will be titled Halfling Moon, and yes, both stories deal with Clan Korval, after Liad. Halfling Moon will be $11 (don't forget postage if you send a check) -- and you can pre-order it NOW through the SRM Publisher catalog website: srmpublisher.com.

PRE-SUPPORTERS OF FLEDGLING TAKE NOTE!

Those who donated $25 or more toward the Fledgling online project and are therefore eligible to receive a thank-you book from the authors: we expect to have the first 600 books in the mail by October 1 -- and the rest will follow as soon after as possible. Books in the US are being shipped via media mail, which can take 7-10 days; so please be patient. We're also having to confirm some addresses by email and some even by *snail mail* since many of you have moved in the last two years and your new addresses haven't reached us. We are mailing as rapidly as we can, but are taking several days to do other essential SRM Publisher and Lee & Miller business (like MISFITS, see below, and writing introductions and the like for the upcoming Baen omnibus editions) so this may take awhile.

*MISFITS*

The paper format Liaden Universe(R) novella MISFITS -- Adventures in the Liaden Universe #15 -- should be arriving at SRM Publisher's world headquarters for shipping by October 3. Given the space problems caused by having both Fledgling and Misfits mailing work going on at the same time we ask for patience if your book order does not arrive this week. If you have not ordered yet, they are available online, at our SRM catalog online and will soon be available from the regular genre outlets as well.

LYTAXIN IRREGULARS BOOKSTORE UPDATE

The "street date" for _Fledgling_ was September 8, and Theo is getting read everywhere -- everywhere, that is, except those places that haven't ordered a copy in. If your local Barnes and Noble doesn't have a copy, you can ask for it. In fact, please do: go to the customer information desk and request that _Fledgling_ by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, *ISBN-10:* 1439132879/*ISBN-13:* 978-1439132876 be stocked.

That's all. You don't have to buy the book. All you have to do is request that it be stocked.

To those who choose to take up this bold challenge: We thank you most sincerely for your aid. We've seen photos of Fledgling in several different B&N stores, and we personally signed copies on a driveby at our local store. It CAN happen. You can help!

FRIENDS OF LIAD AT NASFIC IN 2010

Several dozen Friends of Liad found each other for breakfast at WorldCon in Montreal, and we met a few individually for dinner as time permitted, this despite the fact that there was no central place for Friends of Liad to meet -- no fan table, no Liaden Lounge, not even a publisher's table to act as a central news and meeting spot for FoL. Since Fledglng will be eligible for next year's Hugo Awards (in theory, anyway!) and both _Fledgling_ and _Saltation_ will be out, with _Mouse and Dragon_ on the way -- and with potential dates and news for the reissue of the first 10 novels as well! -- we'd like to facilitate FoL events at ReConStruction (http://www.reconstructionsf.org/ ) if we can. In addition to the long-standing Friends of Liad mailing list we've now set up an address for people wanting to volunteer or share ideas with us directly about events for conventions (like NASFIC, Oasis, and DuckCon) that we'll be attending. That address is fol@korval.com ... and we'll see what we can do to get potential FoL events in gear.

PODCAST INTERVIEW: LEE AND MILLER AND THE SACREMENTO BOOK REVIEW
Realsoonnow (which is to say, "in September," which is SBR's Science Fiction Month) there will be an interview with Sharon and Steve online here: http://www.sacramentobookreview.com/audible_authors.php
and! a book review of Fledgling here: http://sacramentobookreview.com/book-reviews/

WATCH THE SKIES: NEW EBAY AUCTION
For those who have been following the fate of the contents of Sharon's file drawer, the ephemera associated with _Agent of Change_ and with _Conflict of Honors_ were auctioned off in July, and Carpe Diem went in August. Now, a shorter story rarity, as seen in Pulp House. many moons ago.

As a reminder, this is what will be on offer:

Candlelight
1. Original typescript, hand corrected by authors, dated July 1984
2. Submission typescript
3. Carbon copy of submission letter to Good Housekeeping
4. Several rejection letters (including Good Housekeeping)
5. Another copy, with hand-written revisions
6. Intent-to-publish letter from Pulphouse, signed by Dean Wesley Smith, receive date noted in Sharon's hand as October 1992

*OTHER TRAVEL NEWS*

Pre-supporters of Fledgling Take Note!
Those who donated $25 or more toward the Fledgling online project and are therefore eligible to receive a thank-you book from the authors should have received an email from Scott Raun, long-time list-master for the Liaden Universe® News and the Friends of Liad mailing lists.  Scott is verifying the addresses in the subscriber database, so that we can be...as certain as possible that everyone who should get a book, will.

If you received a message from Scott, but put it aside, please do take a moment to answer him now.  If you haven't received a message but think that you should be on the list, please go here:  http://community.livejournal.com/theo_waitley/  to check the list of Lost Souls.
Corrected information should be sent to Scott(1), by e-mail at sraun@fireopal.org,  OR by phone at 612-822-0451. If you prefer to phone, please note this message from Scott:  Phone calls preferably between 8:00-10:00pm CDT, but we'll let the answering machine answer if we're not ready to answer the phone.

Thank you all for your interest in and support of our work.   If the Baen delivery system works as it should, and Steve and Sharon sign and pack fast, everyone should have their books by the first week in October.

SRM Publisher "WorldCon Special" Sale Extended!
We had a good Worldcon, and, due to the fact that many traveling fans at Worldcon were unable to get reliably to the net during the convention to order, SRM Publisher is pleased to announce an extension on the "WorldCon Wow" special offer outlined in our last online update. That means
the 20% discount is now good through end of day August 23, 2009! This is a great time to get your fall and winter- gift-giving in gear, so,
use the code. That secret code is "Worldcon Wow" .... and you need to go to http://www.srmpublisher.com/ to see what's available.

Lytaxin Irregulars Bookstore Advance Corps Accepting Recruits
We have learned of a new, doubtless improved, corporate rule for ordering books in to Barnes and Noble's box stores across the country.  Staff may not order a book into the store on their own initiative (as the gentleman who cares for the SFF section in our local B&N has been doing).  In order to be stocked, a book must meet the following conditions:

1.  It must ALREADY be in the distribution network (no more pre-ordering scheduled books)
2.  It must BE REQUESTED by a customer

What this means is that many books, which may not have readers to advocate for it, will never Actually Appear on the shelves of Barnes and Noble.

We would very much like Fledgling to NOT be one of those books -- and we know you feel the same way.  Here's what you can do to help.

The "street date" for Fledgling is September 8.  That is the date that it is *certain* to be found in the distribution network accessed through the Barnes and Noble computers.  On that date or after it (but NOT before), if you are in or near a B&N, please go to the customer information desk and request that Fledgling by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, ISBN-10: 1439132879/ISBN-13: 978-1439132876 be stocked.

That's all.  You don't have to buy the book.  All you have to do is request that it be stocked.

To those who choose to take up this bold challenge:  We thank you most sincerely for your aid.

MISFITS
The Liaden Universe® novella MISFITS, previously avialable only electronically from Jim Baen's Universe, will be coming out in
paper format from SRM Publisher Ltd. in September, 2009. Subscriptions are available online. See WORLDCON WOW, above.

Friends of Liad at NASFiC in 2010

Watch the Skies:  Carpe Diem Ebay Auction
For those who have been following the fate of the contents of Sharon's file drawer, the ephemera associated with Agent of Change and with Conflict of Honors were auctioned off in July.  Now, we're ready to get rid of <i>Carpe Diem</i>.  This auction will go live during the week of August 16, and a message will be sent to this list at that time, to alert Interested Parties.
As a reminder, this is what will be on offer:

Carpe Diem
NEARLY 10 INCHES HIGH, AN ESTIMATED TWO THOUSAND SHEETS OF PAPER, A STAND-ON-THE-BATHROOM-SCALE-
WITH-YOUR-ARMS-FULL-OF-PAPER GUESSTIMATE IS BETWEEN 18 AND 20 *POUNDS* OF PAPER

3. Several pages of notes from telephone conversations, in Sharon's hand
4. Notes for eliminated plotlines
5. Editorial Christmas card
6. Photocopy of the copy-edited manuscript
7. Proof

NEW PUBLISHER FOR FIRST 10 LIADEN NOVELS
That's right, the first 10 Liaden Universe® novels will be returning to print, repackaged with new covers by Baen Books
into 4 trade paper omnibus editions, thanks to yeoman efforts by our agent Jennifer Jackson.

The ink is still drying on this, so publication dates, volume titles,
and cover artists are still up in the air. The likely order of appearance is below.

Omnibus One: Local Custom, Scout's Progress, Conflict of Honors
Omnibus Two: Agent of Change, Carpe Diem
Omnibus Three: Plan B, I Dare
Omnibus Four: Crystal Soldier, Crystal Dragon, Balance of Trade

When we have dates and other information, we'll let you know.

LEE AND MILLER SET FOR WORLDCON
Liaden Universe® authors Sharon Lee and Steve Miller will be appearing at Anticipation, WorldCon 67, in Montreal, Canada
starting later this week. The authors are scheduled for readings, signings, panels, a Friends of Liad breakfast, and general
frivolity -- join them if you can. The schedule at http://rolanni.livejournal.com/457897.html is still on as the authors madly pack.

FLEDGLING
Amazon.com has begun soliciting reviews for Fledgling, which is officially due out in September; expect some copies to surface in bookstores and conventions before then. Watch the skies, Theo is on her way!

DOUBLE VISION SHIPPING NOW
Double Vision, the new 298 page collection of Sharon Lee and Steve Miller's work outside the Liaden Universe®, is shipping now.
With some stories dating to 1976 Double Vision is a great way to see the early individual work as well as the start of the collaboration
that led to the Liaden experience. Available from select genreshops and convention dealers as well as from the SRM Publisher
website at http://www.srmpublisher.com. See WORLDCON WOW, below

MISFITS
The Liaden Universe® novella MISFITS, previously avialable only electronically from Jim Baen's Universe, will be coming out in
paper format from SRM Publisher Ltd. in September, 2009. Subscriptions are available online. See WORLDCON WOW, below.

WORLDCON WOW
SRM Publisher will have a presentation at Worldcon, but no sales table. Since so many Lee & Miller readers aren't able to
come to the presentation to pick up the discount coupon postcards Steve will be handing out, we'll share the 20% off
coupon code with readers of this INFODUMP. That secret code is "Worldcon Wow" .... right. Also -- since the entire SRM Publisher retinue --
warehouse wranglers, office staff, and packing crew -- will be at worldcon, there will be a break in shipping new orders until
August 15. That secret code is "Worldcon Wow" and that's good for the entire SRM PUblisher catalog, though quantities of some items
may be limited to available stock. "Worldcon Wow" is the code, got that? Twenty percent off as a show special. Yes! The coupon special
runs until August 15. Worldcon Wow.

The stuff I couldn't tell you about?

Well!

Now I can tell you.

First, a little background: Earlier in the year, Ace announced that it would be reprinting ten (10!) Liaden Universe® novels in mass market format. Agent of Change and Conflict of Honors were, in fact, reprinted. It was then that the chains said that they didn't want no stinkin' reprints -- and Ace pulled the eight remaining novels from the publication schedule.

There was No Joy in Mudville, nor in Central Maine, nor yet, in Solcintra.

But! In the background, unbeknownst to you, though knownst to us, [personal profile] jenniferjackson, aka Madame the Agent, was working both hard and smart, with the result that Ace reverted the reprint rights to The Authors. Which meant the books were now free to be marketed Elsewhere.

With the result that. . .

...at a professional blog.  I can't say as how there will be much action here -- or action in spurts, because that's how the writing life goes:  long stretches of Boring enlivened with short bursts of Omighod!

So, as I said, an attempt.

To those who have wandered in, by accident or design, welcome!

Back in April, we here at Eagles Over the Kennebec were talking about Secretaries Administrative Professionals Day and I mentioned that I feel a little funny receiving flowers and gifts on that day, because I don't consider myself to be a secretary administrative professional, but rather a writer. Some discussion followed; Science Fiction Writers Day was quickly proposed and seconded. [profile] hapaxnym suggested June 23 as a likely date of celebration, it being the day that Cyrano de Bergerac made the first successful (fictional) flight to the moon.

So! In my Official Capacity as a writer of science fiction and fantasy, I hereby proclaim June 23 Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Day! A day of celebration and wonder! A day for all of us readers of science fiction and fantasy to reach out and say thank you to our favorite writers. A day, perhaps, to blog about our favorite sf/f writers. A day to reflect upon how written science fiction and fantasy has changed your life.

Take it and run with it -- pass it on -- have fun!
